My approach to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

For me, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is more than just a standardized procedure. I understand it as a vibrant and adaptable therapeutic approach that adapts to your individual situation, not the other way around.

The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework provides a scientifically sound foundation, which I combine with an appreciative, understanding-promoting approach. My practice focuses not on strictly adhering to protocols, but rather on jointly discovering and understanding your inner processes and patterns.

As an integrative behavioral therapist in Berlin, my approach includes:

  • Individual Problem Analysis: Together we examine which factors trigger and maintain your complaints

  • Working with Thoughts and Feelings: Developing a more flexible approach to inner experiences

  • Promoting Mindfulness: supporting a more conscious awareness of the present moment

  • Behavioral Methods: developing new, helpful behaviors in a protected environment

  • Value Orientation: Clarifying personal values as a compass for meaningful action

  • Understanding Inner Processes: Appreciation of different personality aspects and inner perspectives

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is particularly transparent and understandable – you always understand why we use certain interventions and how they can contribute to your improvement.

The Development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has evolved continuously since its beginnings in the 1950s. This development is also reflected in my therapeutic work, which integrates various influences:

From classical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)...

The first wave focused on observable behavior and used structured methods. These continue to provide an important foundation when used sensibly and individually.

...through the cognitive revolution...

The second wave expanded the focus on thoughts and their influence on our feelings and behavior. This is not just about changing thought patterns, but above all about gaining a deeper understanding of our own inner world.

...towards an integrative approach

In my practice as a behavioral therapist in Berlin, I particularly integrate elements of the so-called "third wave" of Cognitve Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These newer approaches emphasize aspects such as mindfulness, acceptance, and value orientation. They complement the classic methods with a deeper emotional and experiential dimension.

This integrative approach enables therapy that is both scientifically sound and individually tailored, focusing on the whole person with their unique history and needs.

Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most well-researched psychotherapy methods and forms the basis of my work. Scientific studies demonstrate its effectiveness in addressing a wide range of psychological challenges (e.g. depression or anxiety disorders).

In my practice, I combine these scientifically based methods with an individualized, process-oriented approach. It's important to me that the focus is not on the method itself, but on your needs. Cognitve Behavioral Therapy (CBT) offers a broad spectrum of approaches that can be flexibly adapted to your personal situation.

The focus is not only on reducing symptoms, but on a deeper understanding of your inner processes and promoting personal growth.

How does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in English look like in my practice?

1. Getting to Know Each Other and Trial Sessions

The first 2-4 sessions are dedicated to getting to know each other and conducting a comprehensive diagnostic assessment. We will discuss:

  • Your current complaints and their effects

  • Relevant biographical experiences

  • Your expectations and goals for therapy

  • Whether my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) services fit your needs

2. Joint Problem Analysis

We develop an individual understanding model of your difficulties:

  • What factors contributed to the problems?

  • What thoughts, feelings and behaviors sustain them?

  • Which patterns repeat themselves in different areas of life?

3. Therapy Planning and Support

Based on our shared understanding, we develop a flexible orientation for therapy:

  • We develop wishes and goals that are personally important to you

  • The therapy process remains adaptable and develops with you

  • Methods are individually selected and adapted to your needs

4. Active Therapy Phase

The actual treatment unfolds as an individual process that is tailored to your pace and needs:

  • Developing a more flexible way of dealing with stressful thoughts and feelings

  • Promoting a deeper understanding of your inner processes and your inner experience

  • Exploring new behaviors together in a protected space

  • Learning mindfulness and acceptance for difficult experiences

  • Integration of appreciative perspectives on different parts of your personality

  • Support for value-oriented action despite internal obstacles

  • Regular reflection of the therapy process and adaptation to your needs

5. Relapse Prevention and Conclusion

Towards the end of therapy, the focus is on stabilizing the successes:

  • Recognizing potential risk situations

  • Developing strategies for dealing with setbacks

  • Strengthening self-efficacy and independence

  • Gradual reduction of therapy frequency
